You guys. This is so awkward. Um, I don’t really know how to say this, but….you know the Saucony Hurricane? Yeah, I’ve been spending kind of a lot of time with it lately.
No wait! Don’t judge! It’s not what it looks like! I still love the Tangent! The Tangent will always be my shoe! It’s just…well…sometimes you just want a little more stability, you know? The Hurricane isn’t sexy, it’s kinda on the heavier side, maybe even a little clunky and awkward, but it’s so dependable. Always there when you need it. That Tangent, it’s so light and zoomy, with the shiny blue strip along the outside of the foot that’s always goading you to go a little faster…even when it’s not so good for you, you know? It’s not so good at respecting my needs. The Hurricane is all “no, baby, do whatever you need, I’m here for you. I just want you to be happy.”
While I’m in confessional mode, I might as well tell you how I have a hard time staying away from the Asics DS Trainer, another seductive, light bad boy with potentially destructive characteristics, especially for distances over 15km. I had a little fling with the LunarGlide last summer, but my peroneal tendons didn’t get along so well with the LunarGlides, so it never really developed into anything more.
I know exactly what you’re thinking: Girl, just stick with ONE SHOE, then you wouldn’t be having these problems in the first place. Stop thinking the grass is always greener! Be happy with what you have! And indeed: You’re right, you’re right, I know you’re right. But is that even realistic? One shoe? My problem is, I love ALL shoes. Is that so wrong? There are so many shoes, and I have so much love to give. Frankly, if loving shoes is wrong, I don’t ever want to be right.
“I don’t want to be right,” lol! I’ve had a crush on the Lunar Glides for several months but I hear they’re not that great.
Asics 2150s are my heavy stability go-to, dependable partners. But I can’t stay away from the lighter, neutral lime-green Brooks Launches. My achilles gets angry if I spend too much time withe the Launch though, haha.
ooh, yeah, I’ve totally repressed all memories of flings with racing flats (isn’t the launch a racing shoe?). My achilles still haven’t forgiven me!
The lunarglides are weird. They look cool, but we know that looks aren’t everything. They were initially marketed as being “minimalistic” but they’re a strange in-between thing, lighter than a regular running shoe but with so much cushion that you (or I, at least) need way more support in the heel. Whereas if it were really minimalist, there wouldn’t be that much cushioning. Or so goes my non-expert logic. I dunno, it’s 5 p.m. and my brain stopped working about an hour ago.
